Biography

Kellen Schrimper

Kellen Schrimper is an emerging baritone, acclaimed for his plangent, warm tone and noble stage presence. In the 2025 season, he will join Teatro Nuovo for their production of Verdi’s Macbeth, singing the role of the Sicario while also covering the titular role. In the fall of 2023, Mr. Schrimper made his role and house debut as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro with Pacific Northwest Opera. The following spring, he performed as Marcello in La bohème with Opera in the Heights, where he previously made his house debut as Marullo in Rigoletto. In the 2024 season, Mr. Schrimper debuted two more roles, appearing as Ford in Falstaff with Pacific Northwest Opera and returning to Opera in the Heights as the Pilot in Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince. As a Gerdine Young Artist in 2023, he made his company debut with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as Sciarrone in Tosca, while covering the role of Scarpia. He also covered the role of Reverend Blitch in the company’s original production of Susannah. Prior to his time in Saint Louis, Mr. Schrimper was a perennial apprentice artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, most notably performing as the Interrogator/Estonian Frank in their 2021 production of Gregory Spears’ Fellow Travelers.
