Kelly Monteith is an American soprano from Williamsburg, VA who has performed with organizations and venues all over the world, ranging from the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall to various historic theaters and castles in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
In autumn 2021, Kelly started graduate school at the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University, where she studies with Dr. Kathryn Leemhuis. During her first year, she sang in a masterclass for renowned dramatic baritone Lester Lynch and performed in scenes from Weber’s Der Freischütz and Roger and Hammerstein’s Carousel. In April, she made her debut with Temple University Opera Theater as Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. In November 2022, she will cover Almera in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters.
In addition to her university performances, Kelly sang at the 2022 Vienna Summer Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, where she sang the role of Annabel in the European premiere of Paul Richard’s Mondo Novo and covered Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. She also sang with Chicago Summer Opera in their 2021 production of Händel’s Silla, as well as with La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy, and with Manhattan Opera Studio, including in an aria concert in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
Kelly graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. During her time there, she was an active participant in Mason Opera, performing in six mainstage productions and numerous opera scenes, including as Leila in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe and Belinda (cover) in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She also sang in masterclasses for internationally renowned stars Ann Murray and Charlotte Hellekant, and was a featured soloist with the George Mason University Singers for excerpts from Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Charpentier’s In nativitatem Domini canticum, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, performed Reykjavik, Iceland.
