As a performer of Opera, Kyle Anthony Cortés is most known for his comedic character abilities. His most recent performances in fact reflect the humorous Basilio in Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" and The Witch from Humperdinck's "Hänsel und Gretel". Other operatic works he has performed in are Satyavan in Gustav Holst's "Savitri", along with Fiorello & Officer from Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" while covering Count Almaviva. He also holds background in Music Theater, including the roles of J. Pierpont Finch in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying", Gary/Rodger in "Noises Off", Chip Tolentino in "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", Bernardo from "West Side Story" and "Benny" from "In the Heights". As a current graduate student of DePaul School of Music, Cortés will be receiving his Masters of Music in Vocal Performance in the Spring of 2021 under internationally-acclaimed Mezzo-Soprano Viktoria Vizin, PhD. His undergraduate studies include two Bachelors of Music degrees from the University of Florida in Voice Performance and Composition, graduating cum laude in his class. Cortés’ other formal training includes a summer of private research in Composition and Combination-Tone Writing at the Mozarteum Conservatory with Dr. Achim Bornhöft and a six-month study with Dr. Jourdan L. Howell’s Palm Beach Opera Apprentice Studio.
