a native of San Francisco and a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. Her
accolades include 1st place of the 2018 Lotte Lenya Competition, 1st place in the
2023 Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston Career Grant competition, an
encouragement award in the 2023 Camille Coloratura Awards, and an
encouragement award in the 2019 Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions.
Soprano Laura Corina Sanders, hailed for her “honeyed soprano” and “sweet, amber
tone” is a native of San Francisco and newly based in Washington, DC. Her accolades
include 1st place of the 2018 Lotte Lenya Competition, 1st place in the 2023 Gilbert
and Sullivan Society of Houston Career Grant competition, an encouragement award
in the 2023 Camille Coloratura Awards, and an encouragement award in the 2019
Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions. She is an alum of multiple
prestigious Young Artist Programs including Wolf Trap Opera, Central City Opera,
Shreveport Opera, Charlottesville Opera, and Opera Orlando.
Laura received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the
Eastman School of Music. In the 2024-2025 season Ms. Sanders was featured in
principal roles with Opera Orlando, Charlottesville Opera, Union Avenue Opera, and
recently debuted as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel with Mobile Opera. She most
recently appeared as Elvira in L’Italiana in Algeri at both Opera In The Heights and
Anchorage Opera, and Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Central City Opera. Other
notable roles include Susanna, Gilda, Zerlina, and Kao Kalia Yang/Joua Thao in the
world premiere of The Song Poet at Minnesota Opera.
