Liam Battle is a cellist who focuses on contemporary music. He plays both with the Antigone String Quartet and as a soloist. Liam is also the Artistic and Executive Director of the Antigone Quartet Prize.
The Antigone Quartet will be playing with the SIU Orchestra in their performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This performnace will feature a recital by the Antigone Quartet with Schubert's Death and the Maiden and Price's String Quartet in A Minor.
Liam Battle is a cellist at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Liam performs regularly as a
a chamber musician with the Antigone String Quartet. The Antigone String Quartet has enjoyed residencies at
SIFest, Musica Le Mans, and the Ascent International Chamber Music Festival where they have performed recitals
as guest artists. Other performances include those at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Pyramid Hill Sculpture Garden.
Liam has been featured in chamber music masterclasses with Philip Setzer, Peter Salaff, the Miro Quartet, and Alan
Rafferty. He has been coached by renowned soloists and chamber musicians including Saeunn Thorsteindottir, Amit
Even-Tov, Elliot Madore, and Sandy Yamamato.
As a soloist Liam has appeared as a performance fellow at the Cortona Sessions for New Music and on concert
series in New York and Cincinnati. Solo masterclass appearances include Johannes Mosser, Jeffery Zeigler, Zuill
Bailey, and Matt Haimovitz.
Liam’s focus on modern music has led him to be the premier performer for many works in the last year. Significant
world premieres include those of Aya Yoshida, Brian Raphael Nabors, Gaston Gosselin. Recently, Liam is also the
commissioner and premier performer for Kevin Kay’s solo cello consortium work “coalescing.”
The 2023 season will see Liam perform as a soloist with the CCM Philharmnia on Qigang Chen’s Reflet d’un
Temps Disparu and with CCM’s Musica Nova on Iannis Xenakis’s Epicycles.
