Irish-American baritone Liam Shannon is quickly establishing himself as one of New England’s most sought-after young artists, praised by the South Florida Classical Review for his “strong” voice. Recent performances include Albert in Massenet’s Werther with Modern-Vintage Opera, Ping in Puccini’s Turandot with Opera Vermont and the New England Repertory Orchestra, and baritone soloist in Fauré’s Requiem with the Bennington County Choral Society and Finzi’s Requiem da Camera with the Connecticut Chamber Choir. Other notable roles include the Sacristan in Tosca, the Minskman in Flight, and the Ferryman in Curlew River.
This past season, he made company debuts with Opera in the Pines covering Figaro in the world premiere of Barber of the Cape, Marchese d’Obigny in La Traviata with Opera Vermont, and Beaumarchais in John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles at Miami Music Festival. In the 2025–2026 season, Mr. Shannon will appear as Il Genio in the U.S. premiere of Zuelli’s La Fata del Nord, and as King Melchior in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, with further engagements to be announced.
In addition to his performing career, Mr. Shannon serves on the voice faculty at both Smith College and Amherst College. He holds a Master of Music in Vocal Arts and Opera from the USC Thornton School of Music, where he studied with Lynn Helding. He currently studies with baritone Jonathan Beyer.
