Described as “one of the most consummate musicians I have seen on stage” (Radio NZ), Liam Wooding is one of New Zealand’s leading pianists. Performing with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra as a prize winner in the 2015 National Concerto Competition, he has since performed as a soloist with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Wellington Chamber Orchestra, and on several occasions with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. ​ Liam performs regularly as a soloist and ensemble musician. Recent highlights include a nationwide recital tour for Chamber Music New Zealand, and shows at the Auckland Arts Festival, Whakatipu Music Festival, Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10, University of Western Australia, University of Adelaide, and Flinders University. In 2020 Liam was an artist in residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada. ​ His first commercial recording, Play Pen, was released on the Atoll label in 2019 and spent several weeks at the top of the Radio New Zealand classical music charts. Upcoming recordings for Rattle records include the complete Cabaret Songs by William Bolcom, and his solo recital Reflections and Connections. Liam also appears on Lachlan Skipworth's new album Chamber Works Vol. II. Liam studied at the Australian National Academy of Music under Timothy Young, supported by a Creative New Zealand scholarship. On leaving ANAM, he received the Volunteers Prize for an Outstanding ANAM Citizen. Nowadays, Liam works at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) as a pianist and teacher and is also completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Waikato.
