Biography

Louis Danowsky

Louis Danowsky is quickly making a name for himself as a trusted music director, conductor, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and teacher within the New York music and theater scenes.  At 25, he picked up his first Broadway and Off-Broadway credits, as the rehearsal accompanist for True Crime Obsessed Broadway (The Hayes Theater) and the copyist for Notes from Now (Prospect Theater Company) respectively. Additional New York theater credits include Broadway Backwards 2022 and the April 2022 Workshop of Hi, My Name Is Ben, among others. Regional credits include The Last Supper (SOPAC), Ride the Cyclone (McCarter Theatre), Unmaksed: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Paper Mill Playhouse), and Chasing Rainbows (Paper Mill Playhouse).  This Fall, he will serve as adjunct faculty at DeSales University's theater program, music directing Side by Side by Sondheim for the school's mainstage theater company, Act 1 Productions. He recently music directed She Loves Me at the Stevens Institute of Technology for their longstanding theater group, Stevens Dramatic Society, and has served as a music director and arranger for Paper Mill Playhouse's Summer Musical Theater Workshops/Intensives. ​He has written orchestrations and arrangements for The American Pops Orchestra, concerts at the Library of Congress, various dance projects of Broadway actor/choreographer Lamont Brown, Nolan Robinson's award-winning short film Grief Night Club, and Northwestern University's storied Waa-Mu show. Louis's versatility extends to other instruments and genres. His 17-piece jazz ensemble, the DW Jazz Orchestra, has performed at esteemed venues including Birdland and Dizzy's Club Coca Cola and recorded two full-length albums. He has been fortunate to collaborate and/or share the stage with seasoned veterans and rising stars in the jazz world including Branford Marsalis, Benny Benack III, Julian Lee, Julius Rodriguez, and Stella Cole among others. He is a frequent contributor to Jared Decker's virtual big band and longtime collaborator with Josh Harmon of TikTok's Rhythms of Comedy fame. He has performed on piano, synthesizers, saxophones, and woodwinds in pop and rock-oriented settings with artists including Eleri Ward, Samantha Joy Pearlman, Mike Hubbard, and Brian Falduto.  Louis is also an active and passionate educator who loves instilling the joy of music and theater in the the next geneartion of artists. He freelances as a vocal coach and maintains an active private teaching studio of piano, saxophone, and clarinet students of all ages, many of whom have been recognized at their school, district, or regional levels for their musical excellence. Louis holds a Bachelors of Science in Music with a concentration in Music Direction from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. He studied conducting with Donald Nally, Mallory Thompson, and Victor Yampolsky, theatrical music direction with Ryan Nelson, arranging with Joe Clark, and saxophone with Victor Goines.
