In recent years, Aguilar has led the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of the RNOCJIP (Panama), the Teresa Carreño Symphony Orchestra, the Simón Bolívar Choir, the Florida International University Symphony Orchestra, and the Teresa Carreño Ballet. In March 2020, Aguilar received the “Graduate Performance Award” from Florida International University and participated in the 28th World Music Competition. Later that year, he was invited to become a member of two honor societies, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key International Honour Society. He is a former member of the celebrated Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra in which he was principal viola (2006-2011). During these years, he performed at renowned venues as the Carnegie Hall in NY and the Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin and participated in concerts and recordings with artists as Gustavo Dudamel, Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Luciano Pavarotti, and Itzhak Perlman. His recordings as principal viola are “The Rite of Spring” with Gustavo Dudamel (Deutsche Grammophon, 2010), and “Claudio Abbado – Easter 2010 at Lucerne Festival” with Claudio Abbado (Accentus Music, 2011). With this orchestra, he won a Latin Grammy for “Bidimensional” (Producciones Guaqueros, 2017), and was nominated for “Fiesta” (Deutsche Grammophon, 2008). Besides his musical achievements as a performer and teacher, he also was proven valuable as Director of String Sections from the Orchestral Academic Program of El Sistema in Venezuela.
