Tenor Lunga Eric Hallam is a first-year member of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago. He was born and raised in South Africa,Cape Town ,Khayelitsha , a founder of a nonprofit organization called Phenomenal Opera Voices, postgraduate (with honors) degrees in music at the University of Cape Town College of Music. Recent engagements as a Young Artist at Cape Town Opera include Tebaldo/I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Edgardo/Lucia di Lammermoor, and Roberto/Maria Stuarda, as well as Ramiro/Cenerentola at Cape Town Conservatory. He also was featured as part of the 2017 Harare International Festival of the Arts (Zimbabwe). Hallam competed as a semifinalist in the 2019 Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition and the 2019 Voice of South Africa International Singing Competition. In July 2020, the tenor appeared in the Ryan Opera Center’s Lawrence Brownlee and Friends, and r appeared in Lyric’s virtual offerings concert :Creating The Factotum,Sole e Amore, Magical Music around the world,Rising stars. Recently the tenor appeared in a concert with Joyce Didonato “ beyond the aria” in Harris Theatre-Chicago Illinois
