Biography

Madison Craig

Southern Alberta-born lyric soprano, Madison Craig, is forging her own path in the world of classical music. Her versatile voice has allowed her to perform in operatic works from baroque to modern, on stages from Vancouver to the Czech Republic. In the 2018-2019 season she appeared as Anna Sørenson in Kevin Puts’ Pulitzer Prize winning opera, Silent Night (University of British Columbia Opera). Past highlights include her performance as Elvira in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri (European Music Academy), as well as Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Second Woman in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (University of Lethbridge Opera). Her work has also been recital based- with carefully curated art song repertoire to challenge herself and engage audiences. At the 2019 Centric Music Festival, Madison gave a recital on “The Feminine Muse as Artistic Inspiration” featuring works by composers such as Messiaen and Szyzmanowski. During her studies Madison nurtured her love of new music by working on a performance of John Greer’s Liebesleid Lieder with the composer. She also premiered works in composer concerts, like Carey-Lyn Holt’s “Popcorn” for soprano, mezzo-soprano, and popcorn machine. Madison holds a Master of Music in Opera from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Lethbridge. She also has been the recipient of multiple awards, including third place at the Federation of Canadian Music Festival's National Music Festival in 2017 and an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2016.
