Madison Montambault

Praised by Indy Maven to be “sure to entertain and inspire”, Canadian-American Mezzo-Soprano, Madison Montambault prides herself in her versatile performance ability across the operatic repertoire. In the 2020-2021 season, she made her role and company debut with Indianapolis Opera as Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, where she will later cover the role with the company in May of 2021. Additionally, in collaboration with Indianapolis Opera she was seen as the Announcer in Douglas Moore’s one act opera, Gallantry. Recently she was seen in the role of Muley’s Wife in Ricky Ian Gordon’s The Grapes of Wrath with Michigan Opera Theatre. In 2020, Ms. Montambault made her debut with Sarasota Opera as a member of the 2020 Apprentice Program. She made her professional debut in 2017 with Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings in David Lang’s the difficulty of crossing a field where she sang the role of Mrs. Williamson. Her additional performed repertoire includes the Old Lady (Candide), Bradamante (Alcina), Carmen (Carmen), Madame de Croissy (Les Dialogues des Carmélites), and Dorabella (Così fan tutte).

Equally at home with art song repertoire, she was an Apprentice Artist with The National Music Festival where she performed as a soloist in Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen in addition to a series of recitals in a variety of different styles and languages.

Ms. Montambault was a winner of the 2022 Edmonton Opera Rumbold Vocal Prize, a 2022 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition- Indiana District, a Central Regional Finalist in the 2022 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, a semi-finalist in the 2022 Opera Tampa D’Angelo Young Artist Vocal Competition, a two time semi-finalist in American International Czech & Slovak Competition, a semi-finalist in the Byrd International Young Artist Competition, a recipient of the EXCEL Enterprise Fund Grant, and was a finalist in the University of Michigan Concerto Competition.

Ms. Montambault holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance, a Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice Performance and is a proud alumna of The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. During her time as a graduate fellow, she was awarded the Blanche Thebom Opera Fellowship, and is a longtime student of internationally acclaimed Bass-Baritone, Stephen West. She currently studies with internationally acclaimed Soprano, Jennifer Rowley.

She is an alumna of the Music in the Marche Summer Opera Institute in Italy, The International Vocal Arts Institute, & The Canadian Vocal Arts Festival in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

Passionate about operatic and song literature from the French Impressionist Era, Ms. Montambault enjoys actively studying and interpreting works by Debussy, Poulenc and Ravel.
