Praised for her “voice that instantly engages the listener: shining, free and lustrous” (Seen and Heard International), Polish-American soprano Magdalena Kuźma is promptly establishing a name for herself in both concert and operatic repertoire. She recently won 1st place in the Butler International, ACPC Sembrich, Pasadena Opera, Mississippi Opera, and Concert Artists Guild competitions; placed 2nd at the Metropolitan Opera Regionals & Shreveport Opera Competition, and 3rd with Audience Favorite in the National Opera Association Competition. This season she sings Adina in L’elisir d’amore (Yale), Frasquita in Carmen (Santa Fe Opera), Mahler No. 4 solo (Richmond Symphony), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Opera Orlando), and a recital (LyricFest). This fall Kuźma debuts as a Lindemann Young Artist at the Metropolitan Opera where she will sing Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore and she is set to sing recitals at Wigmore Hall and Merkin Hall. Last year she was honored as valedictorian at Yale University and debuted as a vocal fellow at both Merola Opera and Ravinia. Previous credits include Lila in Cold Mountain at Music Academy of the West, Blanche in Dialogues de Carmélites and Anna in Die Sieben Todsünden (Oberlin Opera). Additional operatic roles include Giannetta in Donizetti’s L'elisir d’amour and Miles in Britten’s Turn of the Screw at Chautauqua Institution. In 2016, she made her European debut in Italy’s Teatro Petrarca performing Drusilla in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea. She is an alumna of Renée Fleming’s SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, Houston Grand Opera's Young Artists Vocal Academy, & The Bach Institute at Emmanuel Music. Magdalena holds degrees in music and psychology from Oberlin College & Conservatory, The Juilliard School, and Yale University.
