A recent graduate of the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, Malaysia studied oboe performance under the tutelage of Michael Henoch and Robert Morgan. She also studied a second major in ethnomusicology and a minor in German. Previous teachers include Scott Hostetler on English Horn and Jill Marchione-Hoffmann on oboe. During her time at the Bienen School of Music, Malaysia has performed in masterclasses for Robert Walters, Adam Dinitz, Peter Cooper, and Joseph Robinson as well as studying under Elaine Douvas at the Hidden Valley Music Seminar and Olivier Doise and Lise Beauchamp at Domaine Forget. In addition to playing under Victor Yampolsky in the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra and Dr. Mallory Thompson in the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Malaysia has also played in many operas including being solo oboe in the Midwest premiere of Jake Heggie’s If I Were You in 2022. In 2021, Malaysia had the honor of serving as principal oboe at the Berlin Opera Academy where she performed five pre-professional level operas over two months. When she is not playing oboe or making reeds, Malaysia enjoys knitting, making new recipes, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
