Biography

Marcelo de Souza Felix

MARCELO DE SOUZA FELIX

Baritone

"...His baritone is fulminant, distinguished. His stage presence: irresistible," that’s how the Badische Zeitung describes Brazilian baritone Marcelo de Souza Felix.

From 2019 to 2023, he was an ensemble member  at the Dortmund Opera, where he made his debut in five roles composed specifically for him. In the 2022/23 season, he appeared in productions such as "Gräfin Mariza" and the world premiere of "Mädchen in Not."

As a member of the International Opera Studio at the Cologne Opera, he was nominated as Young Singer of the Year by Welt am Sonntag for his interpretation of Paul in Philip Glass's "Les Enfants Terribles." Additionally, he portrayed roles such as Marullo in "Rigoletto," Michelotto Cibo in "Die Gezeichneten," and Kasperl in the children's opera "Räuber Hotzenplotz" in Cologne.

At Passaggio Oper Berlin, he sang roles including Don Giovanni, Harlekin in "Ariadne auf Naxos," the four antagonists in "Hoffmanns Erzählungen," and Schaunard in "La Bohème" starting in 2016. He played the role of Morales in "Carmen" at the Opernfestspiele Schloss Glatt in 2019. He has also performed at prestigious venues such as the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Berliner Philharmonie, and the Landestheater Linz. Additionally, he has appeared at the Konzerthaus Freiburg, Kammeroper Konstanz, Theater Freiburg, Theater Heidelberg, and the Philharmonie Essen.

In addition to his opera work, de Souza Felix pursues a diverse concert career. His repertoire includes works such as Bacalov's "Misa Tango" and Ramirez's "Misa Criolla," as well as Fauré's "Requiem" and John Rutter's "Mass of the Children."

De Souza Felix is also a member of the Hamburg based Musiktheater Collective Plan B!, where he combines various music genres in one evening.

At the age of 14, Marcelo discovered his love for classical music in the youth choir of his Brazilian hometown. He studied singing at the University of São Paulo and later at the University of Music in Freiburg as a scholarship recipient of DAAD and the Goethe Institute. Masterclasses with Thomas Hampson, Margret Honig, Helen Donath, and Ileana Cotrubas complete his musical education.
