Russian mezzo-soprano Maria Ostroukhova began her international career after winning the Michael Oliver Prize at the London Handel Competition. Her recent engagements include her role and company debut as Falliero BIANCA E FALLIERO at Oper Frankfurt, Tisbe LA CENERENTOLA at the Grange Festival (UK) conducted by David Parry, Isabella L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI at Ópera de Tenerife and Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Dardano AMADIGI at the London Handel Festival, Ottavia L’INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEAS at the Longborough Festival, Bradamante ALCINA for the Lammermuir Festival and Ryedale Festival Opera, Albino in Johann Hasse’s I pellegrini al Sepolchro di Nostro Signore and Aristea in Vivaldi’s L’OLIMPIADE at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Philharmonic Hall, Emirena in Pergolesi’s ADRIANO IN SIRIA at Cadogan Hall, the Mozart Requiem at St. Martin in the Fields and Les Noces with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko. Upcoming engagements include Falliero BIANCA E FALLIERO at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, Zweite Magd DER ZWERG at the Ópera de Tenerife and Berlioz Les Nuits d’Ete at the Festival de Múver. Other roles include Ottavia and Fortuna in Monteverdi’s CORONATION OF POPPEA, Mrs. Herring ALBERT HERRING, Dritte Dame DIE ZAUBERFLOETE, Carilda ARIANNA IN CRETA, Maman, La Tasse Chinoise, and La Libellule L’ENFANT ET LES SORTILEGES and the title-role GIULIO CESARE IN EGITTO. Concert performances encompass Verdi’s Requiem, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Janacek’s The Diary of the One Who Disappeared and Mahler’s Symphony #2. Her professional recordings include “A lullaby for Princess Charlotte” by Dr Olga Thomas produced by the Royal Marines’ Bandmaster and the Cruise Bereavement Care as a private gift for Her Majesty the Queen. Maria has been an Alvarez Young Artist at Garsington, where she covered Ino SEMELE. Born into a family of Muscovite musicians, Maria started her professional musical education at the age of six. Her formal education include degrees from the Moscow Gnessins’ College of Music as a pianist and accompanist with Anna Arzamanova and Marianna Shalitaeva, graduated magna cum laude, the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatoire as a pianist, harpsichordist, historical piano and basso continuo with Yuri Martynov and Alexandra Koreneva and recently graduated from the Royal College of Music, London, with a Master of Vocal Performance and a Graduate Diploma in Vocal Performance, both with distinction.
