Marley Eder leads a multifaceted career as a performer and educator in Los Angeles. He performs regularly with a variety of orchestras throughout the southwest including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestra Santa Monica, Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Downey Symphony, and San Luis Obispo Symphony, where he serves as principal flute. Additionally, he collaborated with the London Symphony Orchestra playing 2nd flute under Sir Simon Rattle during their North American tour in 2022. He has performed under the batons of notable conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, David Robertson, Kent Nagano, Ludovic Morlot, Dalia Stasevska, Gerard Schwarz, Carl St. Clair, Keith Lockhart, and composers Thomas Ades and John Adams.

As a participant in competitions across the globe, Eder has been a prize winner or finalist in over fifteen international and national competitions. He was awarded 1st prize in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA,) San Diego Flute Guild, and Louisiana Flute Society Young Artist competitions, as well as 2nd prize in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition (NFA,) and Myrna Brown Artist Competition. As a result of reaching the semi-finals in the Nielsen International Flute Competition in 2019, he performed C.P.E. Bach’s Flute Concerto in d minor with members of the Odense Symphony (Denmark) on Medici TV. 

In frequent demand in solo and chamber music capacities, Eder has given concerts throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, France, and Denmark. He has performed at conventions for the Music Teacher National Association and National Flute Association, as well as collaborated on chamber music series such as the Ojai Music Festival, Desert Hotsprings Classics, and New Music on the Bayou series. He has been a featured concerto soloist with orchestras including multiple appearances with the San Luis Obispo Symphony, Louisiana State University Philharmonia, Colburn’s Orchestra de Camera, and the Eastern Music Festival Symphony – the performance of which was described as “elegant, with a warm tone and brilliant technique” by the Classical Voice of North Carolina. His playing has been aired with a variety of ensembles on radio stations including NPR, KUSC, and KCRW. 

An active teacher, Eder is currently on the faculty of Santa Monica College, Northern California Flute Camp, and is a teaching artist for the Young Musician Foundation, an organization dedicated to “harnessing the transformative power of music to increase access to higher education” through offering lessons, ensembles, and scholarships to students in under-served communities throughout Los Angeles. He has given lectures and masterclasses at colleges including the University of Southern California, University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana State University, Cal State Fresno, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, as well as organizations including the National Flute Association and San Diego Flute Guild. 

Dr. Eder completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in flute performance at the Thornton School of Music at University of Southern California where he held a position as a student instructor. He earned his previous degrees from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas (BM) and Louisiana State University (MM) where he was a graduate teaching assistant.
