Ms. Martin's recent roles include La Contessa in Indiana University Opera Theatre's production of Le Nozze di Figaro, directed by Michael Shell and conducted by Maestro Antony Walker, and Antonia in The Tales of Hoffmann with Arbor Opera Theater. More recent highlights include the title role in South Bend Lyric Opera's production of Lucia di Lammermoor, and Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte with the same company. Mary has frequently performed with Opera MODO, including Nannetta (Falstaff), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). Mary earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in vocal performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Melody Racine. Favorite roles at Michigan included Nannetta (Falstaff), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Amy (Little Women), and the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte). She also sang the National Anthem in the Michigan football stadium for President Obama and a crowd of approximately 85,000. Mary is an alumna of Central City Opera Bonfils-Stanton Young Artist Program and the Brevard Music Center. Concert and oratorio work include Hanne (The Seasons) at Indiana University, and the soprano solo in major works with Midland Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, and Detroit Community Choir), Saginaw Chorale Society, Michigan Pops and the Livingston Symphony Orchestra. She is also a teaching artist of Michigan Opera Theatre, where she directed their 2019 and 2020 Operetta Remix Workshop program and appears as a community outreach performer. Mary currently studies with Carol Vaness.
