Biography

Melanie Spector

Praised for her "beaming soprano" by Operawire, Melanie Spector is a coloratura soprano on the rise who was born and raised in New York City. She most recently was named a Connecticut District Winner of the 2021 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and a semi-finalist in the 2021 Houston Saengerbund Competition. This past summer, having been canceled due to COVID-19, she was to have performed the role of Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni directed by Sherrill Milnes and Maria Zouves as a study grant artist at the Savannah VOICE Festival. She was also to have performed La Fée in Massenet's Cendrillon at Manhattan School of Music this past spring. Despite COVID-19, Melanie continued to sing and perform in 2020: She was the soprano soloist for Schubert's Mass No. 6 in E-flat Major, D 950 under the baton of Kent Tritle at Manhattan School of Music; was a Tier II semi-finalist in the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition; sang and accompanied her own recital "Soprano Serenade" sponsored by Savannah VOICE Festival's Virtually Live Series; and participated in master classes taught by Jennifer Rowley, Audrey Luna, and Thomas Hampson. Some of her other recent accomplishments include singing the role of Sister Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, directed by Fabrizio Melano and conducted by Andrew Bisantz at the 2019 Savannah VOICE Festival; being selected and participating in Warren Jones’ Singers and Pianists Seminar at Manhattan School of Music; and being named a national winner of the Shirley Rabb Winston Scholarship in Classical Voice competition in 2019.
