Hailed as “incredibly versatile and exciting” (Schmopera) Canadian mezzo-soprano Michelle Siemens is continually thrilling audiences with her “dark, lustrous instrument” (The National Post). Regarding her 2019 debut of the role Der Komponist in Highlands Opera Studio's ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, Opera Canada praised Ms. Siemens for "[capturing] the angst of her character while also displaying vocal virtuosity in her show stopping 'Sein wir wieder gut.'" In 2018, Ms. Siemens made her debut with Central City Opera in IL TROVATORE. That same year, she concluded her tenure as a Domingo-Colburn-Stein young artist with Los Angeles Opera where she made her debut in AKHNATEN, and was seen in RIGOLETTO, JONAH AND THE WHALE, and CANDIDE. Previous seasons have included appearances with Yorkshire Opera Workshop (DIDO AND AENEAS), Opera on the Avalon (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, SUOR ANGELICA), Halifax Summer Opera Festival (LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, THE HARPIES), UCLA Opera (CENDRILLON), and the Manhattan School of Music (DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, MACBETH). On the concert stage, Ms. Siemens has appeared as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Pergolesi’s STABAT MATER, Rachmaninoff’s VESPERS, Verdi’s REQUIEM, and Mozart’s REQUIEM. She has also appeared as a concert soloist with Los Angeles Opera, Fresh Squeezed Opera, the Savannah Voice Festival, the Greenwich Symphony, and the Colburn School. Ms. Siemens was the winner of the 2020 Classical Singer Fall Competition's Classical Emerging Professional Category. Ms. Siemens has been a winner in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions and a special encouragement award recipient from the Western Region Finals. She was also a finalist for both the Canadian Opera Company Gala Competition and the Ades Vocal Competition.
