Praised for her deep musical sensitivity, American pianist Mira Walker is quickly building a career as a performer known for her commitment to performing the repertoire of underrepresented composers, as well as her compelling performances of the works of J.S. Bach. Both a passionate performer and teacher, Mira has been overwhelmingly lauded by her students for creating challenging yet positive learning environments, and developing the individual potential of each student. She currently teaches for the University of Michigan Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program and the Schoolcraft College Piano Academy.
Mira completed her Bachelor of Arts in Music with Yakov Kasman at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and her Master of Music in Piano Performance with Norman Krieger at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she also served as an Associate Instructor of Piano. Mira is currently pursuing a DMA in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Michigan - School of Music under the guidance of Logan Skelton and John Ellis, where she also serves as a Graduate Student Instructor.
Mira’s honors include prizes in dozens of competitions, including First Prize in the National Federation of Music Clubs Collegiate Piano Competition, and top awards in the inaugural Music International Grand Prix, The American Prize, and the Alabama Symphony Concerto/Aria competition. Mira was also awarded a fellowship by the Gilmore International Piano Festival in 2022.
Mira is an active performer, appearing nation-wide in solo and chamber recitals. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Alabama Symphony and the National Ukrainian Symphony. Mira has appeared in master classes with Ann Schein, Jeremy Denk, Boris Slutsky, Marina Lomazov, Arthur Greene, and many others. She appears frequently at international music festivals such as International Summer Music Academy (Kyiv, Ukraine), Vivace International Music Festival (Wilmington, North Carolina), and Brevard Music Summer Institute (Brevard, North Carolina). Mira’s recent and current projects include a session at the Music Teachers National Association Conference titled Culturally Informed Inclusion of Diverse Music in Early Piano Study, and a recording of works by Florence Price and Margaret Bonds for the Michigan Recording Project. Her upcoming performances include a solo performance at NCKP: The Piano Conference (July 2023), a solo recital at the Brown County Art Guild through Musical Time Indiana (July 2023), and a chamber recital in Lawrence KS featuring the Brahms Horn Trio (August 2023).
