Nathalie Friederich

For Nathalie Friederich, music—opera in particular—captures and distills the essence of humanity. She believes it conveys emotions that transcend words, speaking to feelings universally inherent in all people. This belief fuels her dedication to opera, where she strives to communicate the depth of human experience through her voice.

Nathalie Friederich is a distinguished soprano from Phoenix, Arizona, known for her captivating, expressive performance and dedicated approach to the classical vocal repertoire. Ms. Friederich uses her love for poetry and text to portray emotional sensitivity through her voice. She has a passion for toeing the line between traditionalism in the operatic canon and modernity. Nathalie has an intense passion for old school bel canto technical training. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music under the instruction of Professor Jane Dutton. She is currently pursuing her Masters at the Jacobs School of Music.

In November 2025 Nathalie will step into the role of Musetta in La Bohème at the Indiana University Opera Theatre and Ballet. Ms. Friederich’s  recent engagements include Erste Dame in the Trentino Music Festival’s 2024 production of Die Zauberflöte, The Taumännchen in Indiana University Opera Theatre’s production of Hansel und Gretel, and several ensembles including the chorus in Don Giovanni, Candide,  Die Lustige Witwe, and Sweeney Todd.  Her achievements in vocal competitions are notable, with first-place wins in the 2019 Atlanta Music Club Competition, the 2021 National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition, and the 2022 undergraduate division of the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale.
