Biography

Nicholas Huff

Grammy nominated tenor Nicholas Huff has been hailed for his "Vocal and dramatic fearlessness” (Voix des arts) in leading roles across the country. Highlights include Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Florida Grand Opera; Peter Quint, in Turn of The Screw; creating the role of Fabian Hart in Jake Heggie's 2019 magical-realism opera, If I Were You, at Merola Opera; Mitch in Florida Grand Opera’s new production of A Streetcar Named Desire; Tamino in Opera Fort Collins’ production of Die Zauberflöte; and Nemorino in Miami Lyric Opera’s production of L’elisir d’amore, “An authentic bel canto singer […], free, ringing high tones that stopped the show [… and] the melting lyric timbre, beguiling stage personality and theatrical aplomb to dominate the stage.” (South Florida Classical Review). Nicholas is also experienced in new and lesser-known works, such as Prince Charmant in the rarely heard Viardot setting of Cendrillon and Lucano in il coronazione di Poppea (Florentine Opera of Milwaukee). In addition to the Britten and Heggie, Huff has performed other modern works such as Joseph Treat in Victoria Bond's Mrs. President, created the role of Niño Polilla in the world and international premieres of No se culpe a nadie, and was part of the definitive, Grammy nominated production recording of Carlisle Floyd's final opera, Prince of Players. Nicholas can next be heard creating another new role as Tommy in the world-premiere workshop of Night of the Living Opera, with Milwaukee Opera Theater; as Alfred in Die Fledermaus with the Muses Project, and as Prunier in La Rondine with Winter Opera St. Louis. Mr. Huff has been part of several young artist programs, from both the Summer Residency and year-long studio at the Milwaukee Florentine Opera, and the studio at Florida Grand Opera, to Merola Opera’s Young Artist Program. From Kenosha WI, Nicholas studied at Carthage College where he earned his BA in Vocal Performance, and the Eastman School of Music where he earned an MM in Vocal Performance & Literature.
