From Stockton, California, Nicolas received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz.  ​ Mr. Gerst is a regular with the Opera San Jose Chorus, having been in their past 4 seasons, serving as both a member of the tenor section as well as a cover of small roles. He also joined the San Francisco Opera Chorus in their Summer 2018 presentation of Wagner's Ring Cycle.

Biography

Nicolas Vasquez-Gerst

Mr. Gerst is a regular with the Opera San Jose Chorus, having been in their past 4 seasons, serving as both a member of the tenor section as well as a cover of small roles. He also joined the San Francisco Opera Chorus in their Summer 2018 presentation of Wagner's Ring Cycle.   ​ Mr. Gerst has performed with Opera San Jose; Villager (Pagliacci), Gobin (La Rondine), Parpignol (La Boheme), German Soldier 2 (Silent Night), Ufficiale (Barber of Seville), Steve (A Streetcar Named Desire), Remendado (Carmen). With Bay shore lyric opera; Basilio/Don Curzio (Le Nozze di Figaro).  ​ While in school Mr. Gerst performed and covered a large range of roles including; Snake/Lamplighter (The Little Prince), Valere (Tartuffe), The Witch (Hansel and Gretel), Ferrando (Cosi Fan Tutte), Laurie (Little Women).  ​ Also comfortable on the concert stage Mr. Gerst has been a featured soloist with The Hartnell Community Choir ; Messiah (Handel), Nelson Mass (Haydn). The UCSC Chamber Singers; Poeme Chinois (North American Premiere - Phillipe Hersant), and The UCSC Concert Choir; Ceremony of Carols (Britten).
