Biography

Nina Mutalifu

Nina Mutalifu is a Uyghur soprano from a minority turkic group of China who has been hailed by OperaNews as possessing “a real find, with a shimmering lyric soprano voice of fine quality” Mutalifu made her concert debut with the Uyghur Folk Song Concert Tour at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington D.C,  New York’s Kaufman Music Center. She made her Carnegie Hall debut as the 2019 winner of Talents of the World International Voice Competition.

       

As an opera singer, Ms. Mutalifu made her professional debut singing the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro with Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also appeared as Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff with Martina Arroyo’s Prelude to Performance and Tatyana inEugene Onegin with Boyer Opera. Additional previous roles include Rusalka in Dvořák’s Rusalka, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen, and First Lady in Die Zauberflöte.

 

Ms. Mutalifu received her B.M. in Voice Performance at Shanghai Conservatory of Music and graduated from Boyer College of Music at Temple University with her M.M. in Opera. In past seasons, she has also been invited to participate in the Opera Fuoco Baroque Music Festival, Georg Solti Accademia (NCPA), and Renata Scotto Opera program. She was the 2019/2020 Michigan&Illinois District winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

 

      During the pandemic’s digital season, Nina has appeared as Iolanta in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta with Eurasia Festival Opera institute, a soloist in an outdoor concert with Refugee Orchestra Project. She was a young artist working with Chicago Opera Theater and Aspen Music Festival.

 

This year,  Mutalifu is making her role debut of Donna Elvira with Amore Opera in NYC, and she is also making the role debut of Sieglinde (Die Walküre ) with Miami Music Festival the Wagner Institute. She will be covering the lead role in Zorro  (Hector Armienta)with Opera San Jose in next season.
