Acclaimed for her “particularly enchanting, heart-wrenching, and soaring lines,” Nuria Shin is a Korean-American lyric soprano from Cary, NC. She received her Master’s of Music in Opera Performance from the Maryland Opera Studio (University of Maryland College Park), where she studied with Dr. Teri Bickham. In the 2024–2025 season, she made her off-Broadway debut as Ximena in Christian De Gré Cárdenas’ Orgullo and her role debuts as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) and Frau Fluth (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor). The year prior, she covered the role of Florencia Grimaldi (Florencia en el Amazonas). Shin received her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she studied with Dr. Marc Callahan and Dr. Melissa Martin. Her most notable roles include Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Mother (Hansel and Gretel), and Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea)As a concert soloist, Shin has performed with the Greensboro Symphony, NC Triangle Wind Ensemble, and UNC Baroque Ensemble. Additionally, she actively competes in competitions. Most recently, Shin received the Audience Choice Award from the Sue Goetz Ross Voice Competition and placed first in the Advanced Classical-Treble Voices category at the Maryland/DC Chapter NATS competition.
