Mezzo Soprano hailing from Hood River Oregon, Olivia has recently obtained degrees from Louisiana State University and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Olivia considers herself a cross-over artist, boasting experience in both musical theatre and operatic repertoire. She also prides herself on her commitment to outreach through performing for Reimagining Opera for Kids, organizing a panel for South by SouthWest, and teaching for Full Circle Learning from Liberia to Nepal.
A special performance in collaboration with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra was held on April 3rd and 5th, 2025. The children's version of Hansel and Gretel was performed for the community of Bloomington at the Monroe County Public Library and was directed by Ansley Valentine. Olivia Newcomb portrayed the role of Hansel & Gretel's mother.
For the season finale, Olivia portrayed Martirio in LSU Opera's production of Frederico Lorna's legendary tragedy "La Casa de Bernarda Alba" reimagined by composer Griffin Candy and librettist Caridad Svich. This production was mounted under the direction of Dugg McDonough and the baton of maestro Michael Borowitz.
Utah Vocal Arts Academy (Now Utah Valley OperaFest) presented G.F. Handel's "Xerxes" under the direction of Jamie Baer Peterson and the baton of Johannes Bowman. Olivia portrayed Amastre in this production with a chamber orchestra.
The Turner-Fischer Center for Opera proudly presented the collegiate premier of Anthony K. Brandt's "Kassandra" in a double bill with Menotti's "The Medium." Olivia Newcomb performed the joint roles of Ty/Cassandra under the direction of Dugg McDonough and the baton of maestro Michael Borowitz.
Olivia Newcomb portrayed Le Prince Charmant in Massenet's "Cendrillon" for her role and house debut with the Turner-Fischer Center for Opera. She was fortunate to work under the direction of Dugg McDonough and the baton of maestro Michael Borowitz.
Hailing from Hood River Oregon, Olivia recently received her Masters of Music from Louisiana State University. She has had the privilege of performing at LSU’s Turner-Fischer Center for Opera where she’s portrayed Le Prince Charmant in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Desirée Armfeldt in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, Ty/Cassandra in the collegiate premier of Anthony K. Brandt’s Kassandra, and Martirio in La Casa de Bernarda Alba by Griffin Candey and Carisa Svich. Olivia holds a Bachelor of Music with an Outside Field in Musical Theatre (B.S.O.F) from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. For Indiana University Opera Theatre, Olivia was seen as Little Buttercup in Gilbert & Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore. For Indiana University, she appeared as Mrs. Wade in Bernstein' s Wonderful Town, and premiered the new musical Sticks and Stones based on the music of Neko Case for IU Summer Theatre. She has been fortunate to participate in two international young artist programs, Summer Music in Tuscany and the Vienna Summer Music Festival. For the Utah Valley Opera Fest, Olivia portrayed Amastre in Serse by G.F. Handel, and performed scenes from Carmen in “Opera Goes to the Movies''. Olivia was most recently seen rejoining Reimagining Opera for Kids to perform as the Mother in Nicholas Hersh’s arrangement of Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel for the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to performing on stage, Olivia is passionate about promoting greater accessibility to opera and bringing the genre to new audiences. She created and moderated a panel at South by Southwest 2022 in Austin Texas featuring Soprano Lisette Oropesa, conductor Timothy Meyers, and Annie Burridge, General Director/CEO of Austin Opera. The panel discussed the lessons learned by our industry during the pandemic, and how to capitalize on the new technologies and conversations generated by this crisis to foster a more accessible and equitable industry for future generations of singers and fans. Olivia Newcomb is a current student of Jane Dutton and is based in Portland, Oregon.
