Greek-American soprano Pelagia Pamel has performed over a dozen opera roles at the university, young artist, and professional levels. She begins the 2025-2026 season singing La Princesse in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges at Indiana University. In February 2026, Pelagia will be singing Fanny Price in Indiana University Opera's production of Mansfield Park by Jonathan Dove.
In the 2024-2025 season, Pelagia made her Indiana University Opera role debut as the Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. She also sang in the chorus of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, a new commission and co-production with The Metropolitan Opera at Indiana University. In concert, Pelagia was the soprano soloist for the premiere of Reena Esmail's trombone version of II. Alleluia from Exaltations with Indiana University's Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, NOTUS.
In Summer 2024, Pelagia was an Opera Fellow with the Manetti Shrem Opera Program at Festival Napa Valley. Highlights include recital and masterclass performances, as well as performing various scenes in concert as Mimì (La bohème) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni). Other recent performance highlights include Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with Prague Summer Nights Festival and Czech National Opera, Niña (Ainadamar) with Detroit Opera (co-production with The Metropolitan Opera), Diana (Orphée aux enfers) with the University of Michigan, and Soprano Soloist (Ein deutsches Requiem, Brahms) with Wayne State University.
Pelagia Pamel is pursuing her M.M. Voice degree on a full merit-based scholarship at the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University), studying with renowned soprano Heidi Grant Murphy. She graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan with a B.M. in Voice Performance and a B.A. in International Studies.
