Recognized as the ideal Pelléas for Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Phillip has also triumphed in the title roles of Billy Budd, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, and as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Some of his most performed roles include Marcello in La Bohème, Il Conte di Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Lieutenant Audebert in Silent Night, and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte. In these and over forty other roles he has been featured at opera houses such as L’Opéra National de Paris, Semperopera Dresden, Hamburgischen Staatsoper, The Canadian Opera Company, LA Opera, L’Opéra Comique, L’Opéra de Montréal, and dozens more worldwide, including such festivals as the BBC Proms, the Ruhrtriennale, and the Saito Kinen Festival. Phillip’s concert repertoire ranges from baroque masterpieces, such as Messiah, to newly commissioned premieres. Three works from his repertoire which most clearly showcase his extraordinary vocal range and emotional depth are Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Britten’s War Requiem. He has sung to great acclaim with the great symphony orchestras across his native Canada, including Montréal, Toronto, and the National Arts Centre, as well as having performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, The Nashville Symphony, The Phoenix Symphony and the Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, among others. These collaborations have led to Phillip working under the baton of such Maestri as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, James Conlon, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Seiji Ozawa, Sylvain Cambreling, Kent Nagano, Carlo Rizzi, and many more.
