Praised by Opera News for his “appealingly suave baritone” and his "strong presence", Phillip K. Bullock, a native of Washington DC, has been featured in operas, recitals and concerts, throughout the United States. Most recently, Phillip premiered the roles of Cato and the Watchman in the new, critically acclaimed opera Castor & Patience, written by composer Gregory Spears and poet Tracy K. Smith. Additionally, Phillip premiered Diane White-Clayton’s comissioned work, Many Mansions. Equally at home in genres of gospel and pop music as well as classical music, Phillip is a proponent of new american works, and performs in both productions and workshops celebrating fusions of these styles. Most notably, he performed in the provocative production of Deep Blue Sea with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and Nathan Felix's Rivers Unite:Divide. He has also, workshopped Romance of the Rose with Kate Soper and the Wet Ink Ensemble, Bounce: The Basketball Opera with Ardea Arts, and other roles in Gregory Spears' opera Castor and Patience. Past season highlights includes performances of Jake, in Porgy & Bess, at the Sächsische Staatsoper in Dresden, Germany, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Mexico, and in the Royal Danish Opera’s production, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has also appeared in performances of Il barbiere di Siviglia (Figaro), La Fanciulla del West (Jake Wallace), Don Carlos (Rodrique), Carmen (Morales & Escamillo), Romeo et Juilette (Gregorio), Falstaff (Pistola), Amahl and the Night Visitors (Balthazaar), Mark Adamo’s Little Women (John Brook), Gounod’s Faust (Valentin), The Magic Flute (Papageno), l’Elisir d’Amore (Belcore & Dulcamara), Tosca (Angelotti) and Le Nozze di Figaro (Figaro and Antiono). Concert appearances include performances with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, the Lexington Philharmonic, the Cincinatti Symphony Orchetra, the Nationl Music Festival Orchestra, Boston Landmarks Orchestra. With repetoire including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Kurt Weil’s Seven Deadly Sins and Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Faure's Requiem, Handel's Messiah among others. In addition, Phillip has been featured in Cincinnati Opera’s “Opera Goes to Church” concert. Upcomming performances include, Opera Theatre of St. Louis production of Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, concerts with Boston Camerata, and performances of What Problem? with the Bill T. JonesArnie Zane Dance Company.
