Biography

Rachel Magil

Rachel Magil is a lyric coloratura soprano from Rochester, New York. She made her role debut this summer as Lauretta in Noa Naamat’s new production of Gianni Schicchi, with the Netherlands Opera Lyric Festival, hosted by Opera Zuid. She also performed Mabel in a scene from Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance with the Eastman Community School of Music. She was an apprentice artist with Sarasota Opera where she covered the role of Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and also sang in the ensemble for their 2025 winter season productions (Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Le Nozze di Figaro, Stiffelio). At the end of 2024, she performed a recital for the Opera Guild of Rochester alongside tenor Mark Daniels, accompanied by Rob Goodling. Prior to that she performed in Buffalo Opera Unlimited's production of Le Nozze di Figaro. Rachel also participated in the Rochester Summer Opera with Eastman School of Music and performed in their annual "Opera Under The Stars" concert, where she played Musetta in the famous quartet scene from La Bohème.

Past engagements include debuting Norina in Don Pasquale with Taconic Opera (2024) and debuting the title role of Violetta Valérly in La Traviata, with the Mediterranean Opera Studio & Festival in Sicily (2023). She was a participant of the “dall’Aria all’audiZione” program in Vercelli, Italy where she worked with a prestigious faculty and performed Juliette’s Waltz with the Italian Academy Orchestra at Teatro San Carlo, Arona. She also performed Gilda’s “Caro nome” at the Teatro Civico di Vercelli. Rachel served as a Young Artist at the Trentino Music Festival in Mezzano, Italy in the summer of 2022, where she studied with soprano Chelsea Bonagura. She performed the role of Papagena in their production of Die Zauberflöte. In addition, she covered the role of Pamina. Rachel holds a Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Ithaca College.
