Biography

Rashida Ashley

Based in NYC but studying abroad in Paris as a low residency scholar Rashida Ashley will be receiving her MFA in creative writing from New York University in 2024 as she creates her first fiction novel. She also further developed her studies of music by immersing herself in opera as a soprano through the institution. She was also a member of the Creative Career Design Fellowship and a Contributor for the Entrepreneurial Institute for the Fall semester of 2023. Rashida Ashley has written, sung, and produced her songs Tell Me a Story and Flow. She has also produced, acted, and sung in her portrayal of the art song Caro Mio Ben.

Highlights: Portrayed diverse on-screen roles, such as pedestrians, protesters, auction attendees, neighbors, asylum seekers, refugees, office staff, ushers, and event spectators. Adapted performance style to meet the needs of various production settings and genres. Gained extensive experience in professional set etiquette, background acting, and character work.

Performed at the grand opening of Gladys Books & Wine, delivering a dynamic program that blended opera (Vissi D’arte), jazz (Summertime), and soul/R&B (Smooth Operator). Highlights: Brought together diverse genres to create a unique, cross-genre performance. Engaged with the audience by incorporating live birthday celebrations, making the event interactive and memorable. Collaborated with the venue to shape the artistic atmosphere for its debut.
