Biography

Rebecca Kidnie

Award-winning soprano, comedienne, and essayist, Rebecca Kidnie is a versatile artist currently based in New York City.

The dazzilingly and dizzylilingly multitalented Rebecca Kidnie is beloved for her genre-bending creativity and weirdittude. Described as “achingly beautiful”, Rebecca’s distinctive and charismatic vocal instrument voice finds a home in repertoire old as dirt as well as written yesterday. In addition to singing, she is a writer performing with groups at Upright Citizen Brigade, the PIT-NYC & Brooklyn Art Haus (the early years) and maintains Reblogga’s Beck.

A fierce advocate of new works in 2025 she premiered Beyond by Lisa Neher with Off-Brand Opera as 503-2 as well as creating the role of Mother in Leland & Silas by bReAd with Chinkapin Craftshead Arts Organization. She has also had the pleasure to premeiere Speed Dating Tonight! (Janiec Opera Company) by Michael Ching/Dean Anthony, The Master (New Opera Workshop) by Alberto Caruso with a libretto by Academy Award winner Colm Toibin & The Silk City by Francesco Santelli (Garden State Opera), as well as the second productions of Amelia by Daron Hagen & Salsipuedes by Daniel Catán with The Moores Opera Center. Other celebrated more traditional roles include Fiordiligit - Cosi fan Tutte, Mimi - La Bohème (Eklund Opera), Susannah - Susannah, Erste Dame - Die Zauberflöte (The Lighthouse Opera Company), Elvira - Don Giovanni, New Prioress - Dialogues of the Carmelites (Bronx Opera), Alice Ford - Falstaff (Janiec Opera Company), Marianne Leitmetzerin - Der Rosenkavalier & Countess - Le Nozze di Figaro (Moores Opera Center).

A dynamic competitor, Rebecca was a recent winner of the Giulio Gari International Voice Competition. She has previously received First Place at The Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition & The San Gennaro Italian Song Festival. She was a Semi-Finalist at The Mary Jacob Singer of the Year competition, The New York Lyric Opera International Voice competition, & The Rising Stars Vero Beach Opera competition. She is a three-time Encouragement Award Winner at The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She holds degrees from University of Colorado-Boulder, University of Houston, & University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Rebecca wrote her first comedic character for her school assembly in 6th grade and has been a muse of the stage ever since. Her self written solo show, Rita Libretto is: The Ring Cycle in which Rebecca performs the entirety of the Ring Cycle with sock puppets as if performing at a 1st grade assembly. It was set to premiere at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre in the fall of 2020 (canceled due to Covid-19) after a well-received feature at The PIT NYC. It has since become a staple at variety shows around New York City with a premiere due for 2026 that was unfortunately cancelled with the NEA. Hello funding can you hear me? Fortunately, she will never age out of Rita Libretto and a death bed performance is not out of the question.
