Biography

Rebecca Marie Castillo

A native of Houston, Texas, soprano Rebecca Marie Castillo performs with the Houston Chamber Choir, Clear Lake Chamber Ensemble and is a founding member of EXIGENCE (Sphinx Organization). She teaches choir in the Pearland Independent School District and frequently clinics and teaches voice in the greater Houston area. She has performed with Mercury Singers, Bach Society Houston, the Pasadena Philharmonic Orchestra, and as an outreach artist with Houston Grand Opera. Rebecca is passionate about music education and promoting diversity and inclusion in the performing arts. 

Rebecca completed a Masters of Music Education at the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) in 2017. While at CCM she studied with soprano Amy Johnson and performed in The Cunning Little Vixen and Cendrillon. She sang the role of Frasquita (Carmen) at CCM Summer Opera Scenes and the role of Annina (La Traviata) at CCM’s Opera Bootcamp. During her time in Cincinnati, Rebecca interned with the Cincinnati Children's Choir (now Cincinnati Youth Choir) and ran an after-school program at Roberts Paideia Elementary School. She performed with the May Festival Chorus, Vocal Arts Ensemble, and performed in the Cincinnati Early Music Festival. In 2016, she competed in the Audrey Rooney Vocal Competition (Kentucky Bach Choir) and won the Encouragement Prize. 

Previous to her teaching career she received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Sam Houston State University and studied voice with Nicole Kenley-Miller and Barbara Corbin. During her time at SHSU she was awarded the Student Teacher Scholarship from the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). Rebecca has received additional vocal training from Druid City Opera Workshop (University of Alabama), Amherst Winter Workshop, the Franco-American Vocal Academy (Salzburg, Austria), Musical Academy International (Mezzano, Italy), Chicago Summer Opera and FIO Opera.
