Ruha Lee
(She/Her) RUHA LEE, soprano, is a doctoral student at the University of North Texas. She earned her Master of Music in Voice and Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. At Peabody, Ruha performed the title role of Calisto (La Calisto) at the Baltimore Theater Project. In South Korea, she appeared as Despina (Così fan tutte), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). With UNT Opera, she will perform the title role of Alcina (Alcina) in Spring 2026.

Biography

Ruha Lee

RUHA LEE, soprano, from South Korea, is a first-year doctoral student at the University of North Texas, where she studies with Jennifer Lane. She previously earned her Master of Music in Voice and Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Kookmin University in Seoul.

Ruha is a lyrical coloratura soprano recognized for her warm and shining tone. Passionate about the transformative power of music, she seeks to share warmth and humanity through her artistry. She has appeared as a soloist in South Korea, Austria, and the United States, earning praise for both her technical brilliance and her thoughtful approach to musical communication.

On the operatic stage, Ruha has performed a wide range of roles. At the Peabody Institute, she sang the title role of Calisto (La Calisto) at the Baltimore Theater Project. In South Korea, her roles included Despina (Così fan tutte), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). With UNT Opera, she will appear as the title role of Alcina (Alcina) in Spring 2026. In addition to her operatic performances, she has been featured in notable concert appearances, including the “A Night of Song” recital during her undergraduate studies and “The First Art Dream Rising Star Concert” at the Sejong Art Center in 2022. She has also collaborated with contemporary composers, bringing new works to life with sensitivity and conviction.

Ruha’s achievements have been recognized with numerous honors. She was awarded 2nd Place in both the 2020 Seoul Orchestra Competition and The Association of Korean Arts Assessment Competition, as well as 3rd Place in the 2019 Haneum Music Competition. She was further recognized in Korea as an “Excellent Practical Performer” and received a scholarship for her outstanding achievements. In the United States, she was the 2024–25 recipient of the Russell C. and Selina H. Wonderlic Scholarship at Johns Hopkins University. Currently at UNT, she is supported by the Competitive Graduate Opera and Voice Performance Scholarship.
