She is a two-time awardee of The Metropolitan National Council Auditions and was a finalist in the inaugural Marcello Giordani International Vocal Competition in Catania, Italy. Biography

Sabina Kim

Korean American dramatic mezzo-soprano, Sabina Kim, is a prize winner of many internationally recognized competitions. She is a two-time awardee of The Metropolitan National Council Auditions and was a finalist in the inaugural Marcello Giordani International Vocal Competition in Catania, Italy. She received the third prize in the 2014 Argiris International Vocal Competition in Italy, and in 2017 she became a prize-winner of the Lauritz Melchior International Wagner Singing Competition in Denmark. Ms. Kim has performed the role of Suzuki with the Pacific Symphony and the New Jersey Festival Orchestra, and recently at Royal Albert Hall in Raymond Gubbay’s beloved, in-the-round production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. She made her KoreanNational Opera début as Gertrude in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and has performed the role of Amneris in Verdi’s Aida at both Knoxville Opera and at the Daegu international Opera Festival, where she will reprise the role later this year. With the Ulsan Singers Opera, she has performed Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana, and Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor and she made her Wagnerian début with the Bogotá Symphony in Colombia, where she sang Brangäne in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. As a former soprano, Sabina’s professional engagements include the title role of Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw, and Mrs. Herring in Albert Herring. Remarkably, she has also sung both the soprano and mezzo-soprano solos in Verdi’s Requiem. Sabina has performed numerous concerts and recitals in major venues throughout Korea and The United States, including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Busan Cultural Center Hall. Sabina holds a Master of Music Degree from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music Degree and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College.
