Boston University School of Music: B.M. '25
Originally from the suburbs of San Francisco, California, mezzo-soprano Sadie Habas is a recent graduate of Boston University, where she earned her B.M. in Vocal Performance, Cum Laude, under the tutelage of Dr. Lynn Eustis, soprano. She will continue her vocal education at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music this fall in the studio of Michael Dean, baritone, for her M.M. in Voice Performance. Sadie began studying piano and composition at the age of 7, but began training as a singer at the age of 10 when she auditioned for the Grammy-Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus (SFGC).
In SFGC, Sadie advanced through three levels of the chorus school and sang in the touring Premier Ensemble in high school. As a chorister in the Premier Ensemble, she toured both domestically and internationally, performing contemporary choral music reflecting topics of social justice. Sadie has had the opportunity to perform for former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, former California Senator Diane Feinstein, Mayor of San Francisco London Breed, and Singer Tony Bennett. In February of 2018, Sadie sang with the Premier Ensemble at Carnegie Hall with Philip Glass and the Philip Glass Ensemble, performing his Music with Changing Parts. She recorded an album titled My Outstretched Hand with Composer Eric Jacobsen and the Knights Orchestra. In 2019, Sadie joined the Soloist Intensive Program within the Premier Ensemble, a program for aspiring opera/musical theatre singers, where she studied voice privately with Tonia D'Amelio, soprano. In 2021, Sadie advanced to the secondary round of the Classical Singers Music Competition in the International High School Division. In SFGC, she had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with Roomful of Teeth, TENET Vocal Artists, The King Singers, and more.
Ms. Habas began her university training in 2021 in the studio of Lynn Eustis. She won Second Place in the Boston NATS Competition in 2021 and advanced as a finalist in the New England NATS Regional Student Auditions in 2023. In the fall of 2023, Ms. Habas studied voice abroad at the Royal College of Music under the tutelage of Miranda Wright, soprano. At RCM, she sang with the RCM Symphony Chorus under Sir Andrew Davis. In 2024, she won First Place in the NATS New England Regional Student Auditions, and in 2025, she advanced as a finalist in the NATS New England Regional Student Auditions and a Quarterfinalist and Semifinalist in the NATS National Student Auditions, invited to compete in person at Temple University in the final round. As a lover of new music, Ms. Habas attended the Divergent Studio at the Longy School of Music during the summer of 2024, where she learned from resident composers Chen Yi and Marti Epstein and the new music ensemble Loadbang. At Divergent, she performed a World Premiere, Hadye, for voice, cello, and clarinet, by Marti Epstein. This summer, Ms. Habas was a Performance Fellow at the premiere Cortona Sessions for New Music in Ede, Netherlands, where she studied new music with Rachel Calloway, mezzo-soprano. At the Cortona Sessions, she performed two World Premieres by living composers Mieke Doezema and Emma Cardon-Wake.
At Boston University, Ms. Habas performed regularly with the BU Singers and BU Symphonic Chorus as a chorister and soloist. Notable venues include Carnegie Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, the Royal College of Music Concert Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and more. Her concert credits include Lang's 'Freezing Aria' in the Little Match Girl Passion, #7 in Brahms' Liebeslieder, mezzo-soprano solos in Durufle's requiem (cover), and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms (quartet). At BU, she also performed in the opera scenes program. In the spring of 2025, she made her operatic debut as "La Sorella Infermiera" in Suor Angelica with the BU Opera Institute. Furthermore, Ms. Habas was a member of the choir and arts collective VOICES 21C and sang in the church choir at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Arlington, MA. She enjoys writing R&B/Soul and collaborating with producers, with tracks on both Apple Music and Spotify. In her free time, Ms. Habas enjoys swimming, weightlifting, and reading. As a musician and activist, she is interested in how the arts can be used as a vehicle for social and institutional change in society. Ms. Habas hopes to use her art form to spotlight diverse voices and inspire change.
