Lyric mezzo-soprano Sadie Habas is a young artist and passionate advocate for contemporary music, dedicated to amplifying diverse voices and using art as a catalyst for social and institutional change. She is a first-year Master’s student pursuing her M.M. in Voice Performance at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
An avid interpreter of new music, Ms. Habas has performed numerous world premieres by living composers. In the summer of 2024, she attended the Divergent Studio at the Longy School of Music, working closely with resident composers Chen Yi and Marti Epstein and the ensemble Loadbang, where she premiered Hadye by Marti Epstein for voice, cello, and clarinet. In 2025, she was a Performance Fellow at the inaugural Cortona Sessions for New Music in Ede, Netherlands, performing world premieres by Mieke Doezema and Emma Cardon-Wake and studying with mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway.
Ms. Habas has received recognition in numerous competitions, including First Place at the 2024 NATS New England Regional Student Auditions and finalist placements at both the regional and national levels in 2025, advancing to the semifinals and being invited to compete in person at Temple University. She made her operatic debut as La Sorella Infermiera in Suor Angelica with the Boston University Opera Institute and has also performed scenes from Béatrice et Bénédict, Il matrimonio segreto, Orlando, Juditha triumphans, Old Maid and the Thief, and 12 Jurors. Her concert repertoire includes Lang’s Freezing Aria (The Little Match Girl Passion), Brahms #7 (Liebeslieder), Duruflé’s Requiem (mezzo solos, cover), and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms (quartet).
Ms. Habas is also an accomplished choral artist, having trained with the Grammy Award–winning San Francisco Girls Chorus, where she sang in the Premier Ensemble and toured both domestically and internationally. During her time with SFGC, she performed at Carnegie Hall with Philip Glass and the Philip Glass Ensemble, recorded My Outstretched Hand with the Knights Orchestra, and contributed to the Netflix documentary Athlete A. She also performed for former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, former U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, former San Francisco Mayor London Breed, and Tony Bennett.
Her additional choral experience includes performances with the Royal College of Music Chorus under Sir Andrew Davis, the BU Singers and Symphonic Chorus, UCLA Chamber Singers, and the professional ensemble Seraphic Fire. She has appeared in such notable venues as Carnegie Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and the Royal College of Music Concert Hall, and has participated in masterclasses with leading ensembles including Roomful of Teeth, TENET Vocal Artists, and the King’s Singers.
Ms. Habas holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance, cum laude, from Boston University and is currently studying at UCLA in the studio of Michael Dean, baritone, having previously studied with Dr. Lynn Eustis, Miranda Wright, and Tonia D’Amelio. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, creating R&B songs on Spotify, and reading stories.
