Sara Jelley’s original indie-pop songs are the equivalent of sneaking vegetables into comfort food, like zucchini cake; you think you’re only getting sweetness but there’s some sneaky therapeutic value in there. Sara is a heart-opening, vulnerable and soulful songwriter, and takes her audiences on a vacation through the center of their emotions. She uses her theater experience, her pure voice and nourishing charm to entice the listener into her honest, intentional songs
Sara recorded her first full-length acoustic album ‘Holes’ on Maui at The Root Cellar Studio. Currently she is working on a series of more highly produced singles with a more anthemic, beat-driven flavor, with her signature deep-cutting lyrics and emotive vocals. The most recent of which is an rock-pop style dark track about resentment and narcissism called “I Know Where the Bodies are Buried”, released March 3, 2023, and co-written with producer Brent Halfyard.
Sara has sung everything from raucous Led Zeppelin songs in front of a massive arena to ‘Spoonful of Sugar’ as Maui’s Mary Poppins. She has played her original music at international songwriting and yoga festivals while maintaining the intimacy of a coffee house show. Sara has performed in front of 20,000+ people, at such venues as the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, the Historic Iao Theater, ProArts Playhouse, and private parties.
Sara Jelley is also a vocal coach who more than anything believes in the magic of the human voice, and the power of music to open up our hearts and minds. She uses her years of experience as a singer and actor, as well as her deep connection to mental health to help her students express themselves fully, and to dive into the multi-layered process of making their dreams reality through vocal performance. Her signature 6-month vocal transformation program is called “Vocal Magic”, and she has been called a ‘vocal fairy godmother’, as she uses the mind/body/spirit connection to get to the deeper layers of what is holding your voice back, so that you can find your own unique sound as well as a sustainable, resilient, and potent singing voice.
