Sara Kennedy is an Irish-American soprano from Austin, TX who specializes in both classical and musical theatre repertoire

Sara Kennedy is an American soprano from Austin, TX who specializes in both classical and musical theatre repertoire. Sara is known for her lush and colorful voice, commanding stage presence, and her powerful interpretations of Mozart’s heroines. Now a full-lyric soprano (formerly a dramatic coloratura), Sara joined Sarasota Opera as an Apprentice Artist for their 2022 Winter Season. Sara then went on to be an Opera Fellow at Opera Fest Sewanee in Summer of 2022 where she was named a winner in the Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition. In December 2020, she made her debut with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra in their Christmas Collage Concert under the direction of Maestro David Itkin. Other recent opera credits include Ruth Baldwin (Later the Same Evening), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte).
In 2019, along with her three Mozart role debuts (Fiordiligi, Konstanze, and Donna Anna), Sara placed 1st in the Graduate Women’s division at NATS-Texoma Region as well as being named a winner of the University of North Texas College of Music Concerto Competition. Her last performance before the COVID-19 pandemic was “Martern aller Arten” with the UNT Symphony Orchestra at the Concerto Winners’ Concert on March 4th, 2020.
In 2018, Sara was invited to the Czech Republic where she coached her role of the Fox in Cunning Little Vixen at the Janáček Acadamy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno and made her international debut in Olomouc as a soloist in the Pergolesi Stabat Mater with the Ensemble Damian. Sara has also been a featured soloist in the University of North Texas’s College of Music Opera Gala and Wingspan Gala where she performed with Tony-nominated actress, Carmen Cusack.
A recipient of the Bill and Margot Winspear Opera Scholarship, Sara recently completed her Graduate Artist Certificate in Opera from the University of North Texas in 2021. She also holds a BM in Music Education and an MM in Vocal Performance (University of North Texas).
