Sean Cooper, praised for his “rich,” “powerful, and “well-tempered” vocal production, appeared as Colline in the original cast of Baz Luhrmann’s Production of Puccini’s La Bohème on Broadway, as well as Riverdance on Broadway. Standout roles include Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance, the title roles in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle and Mendelssohn's Elijah, and the baritone soloist in the world premiere of Christopher Dietz’s Only a Breath. Sean has performed with such companies as Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera , Opera Carolina, Opera Memphis, Pittsburgh Opera, Toledo Opera, Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh, Opera Columbus, Opera North, Liederkranz Opera, Opera Theatre of Guam, Sacramento Choral Society, Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, and the symphony orchestras of Detroit, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Toledo, Lima, Warren, and Oakland. Musical theatre and operetta productions include Carousel, The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, Chess, The Fantasticks, Gypsy, Kiss me Kate, South Pacific, La Cage aux Folles, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Sean has worked with such esteemed artists as Baz Luhrmann, Charles Riecker, Paul Gemignani, Julius Rudel, Patti Lupone, and Marvin Hamlisch. Dr. Cooper attended Carnegie Mellon, Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Memphis. Winner of the National Opera Association’s Biennial Dissertation Competition, he has been published in The Opera Journal, has presented in national Conferences for the American Musicological Society, College Music Society, Mozart Society of America, and in the Toledo Opera Lecture Series. Recent stage directing projects include Don Giovanni at First Coast Opera and Susannah with Toledo Opera.
