Biography

Sebastian Bäverstam

A winner of numerous awards as a cellist such as the Concert Artists Guild competition in 2010, and the Boston Symphony concerto competition in 2006, Bäverstam has now made his foray into a double career as performer on both cello and piano as well as a composer. Bäverstam attended the New England Conservatory where he studied with cellist Paul Katz from the Cleveland Quartet. He studied composition privately with Alla Elena Cohen of Berklee college, and then studied in Stockholm with Per Mårtensson at the Royal Conservatory of Stockholm. Bäverstam has put forth a new genre of music drawing from both classical and popular styles. He calls this style “vangaurd”, describing it as “post film and modern opera, the next evolution of music in the 21st century”. With the advent of the pandemic, he took his newly finished cello concerto online and will release a fully orchestrated recording of the piece in 2021. Known online as “bulletproofcello” Bäverstam regularly performs on his twitch stream with pianist Constantine Finehouse and drummer Austin McMahon. Other items to watch for in 2021 are his new studio album with Finehouse featuring Brahms, Shostakovich and Bäverstam titled “Midnight Oil” along with Bäverstam’s first completed piano sonata with performances beginning in fall 2021.
