Shanley Horvitz, an American mezzo soprano, has been reviewed "to spin lovely, warm legato phrases, replete with ease of emission, dynamic variety, elegance, yet holding obvious power in reserve.” Shanley had a fruitful competition season with winning 1st place of the 2022 Houston Gilbert & Sullivan Career Grant Competition, 1st place of the 2021 Mario Lanza Institute Competition in Philadelphia, 1st place of the Vienna Summer Music Festival, as well as 2nd place at the International Spazio Musica Festival and was awarded a role in their 2022 season with an additional prize of the invitation to sing at Teatro Cagliari, 3rd place at the ArteinCanto "Luciano Di Pasquale” Concorso as well as a finalist in the Bellano International Opera Festival, where she sang Santuzza under the baton of Roberto Gianola. Most recently she won the Encouragement Award for the MONC Laffont competition at the Pittsburgh District as well as the Audience Choice for the 2022 NYIOP & Premiere Opera Foundation’s International Vocal Competition . Shanley recently debuted the role of Anacoana in Franchetti’s Cristoforo Colombo with Teatro Grattacielo, Jezibaba in Dvorak’s Rusalka with LAHSOW, and the title role in Bizet’s Carmen with Vincerò Academy where in 2022 she will make her Carnegie Hall debut singing the role in concert. Shanley will be making her debut as Donna Elvira in Vienna Music Festival’s production of Don Giovanni in summer 2022. Shanley is from the Philadelphia area and also in based part time in Liguria, Italy; she is a graduate of Westminster Choir College and now is under the tutelage of Jennifer Rowley.
