Soprano Shannon McAleb, a New Orleans native and Denver local, is known for her commitment to character, attention to musical detail, and dazzling high notes. Ms. McAleb recently made her Italian debut as the title role in Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos with the Trentino Music Festival, under the direction of David Gately and baton of maestro Arthur Fagen. She is an active performer- most notably as SoundTrack Chamber Orchestra's soprano soloist- and can be seen in performance throughout the Rocky Mountain region and across the country. She has also been recently seen as Cinderella’s Stepmother in Into the Woods, showing her versatility as not only a classical musician, but also comedic actor.
A champion of new music, Ms. McAleb created the role of Creature From Another Realm in the world premiere of Woman of Salt, with composer Anice Thigpen’s Woman of Salt Project. Among her solo engagements, Ms. McAleb was a featured artist at the inaugural Tabor Opera House Fundraiser in Leadville, Colorado, as well as with the Oregon Camerata Symphony Orchestra performing “Depuis le jour” from Charpentier’s Louise, a piece that won her Honorable Mention at the University of Oregon Concerto Competition. She has also mounted several touring recitals in an effort to bring art song and classical voice to her community.
She has had the pleasure of singing with the world-renowned OperaWorks in Los Angeles, California, as an Advanced Artist, and enjoyed helping create a new, improvised opera during her residency. Ms. McAleb has also been seen as Mimì (cover) in La bohème, Mutter in Hänsel und Gretel, and Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief, as well as in excerpts as Susannah in Susannah, Zweite Mädchen in Elektra, Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte, and Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia. Ms. McAleb was also featured as an Apprentice Artist with Taos Opera Institute, Blooming Voce Opera Workshop, Cascadia Concert Opera, a company she also assistant directed for.
Shannon McAleb is a passionate advocate of the arts and fiercely believes in the accessibility of classical music for the next generation. She now lives in South Denver, Colorado with her husband and their very talkative basset hound, Murphy Maple Bacon.
