Shikta Mukherjee is a twenty one year old soprano from Edison, NJ. She is currently pursuing her bachelors at the Curtis Institute of Music under the tutelage of Julia Faulkner as the Charles and Judith Freyer fellow. In her 2024-25 season at Curtis, Shikta fully embraced her role as a proponent of new music as she performed as Joan in Amy Beth Kirsten’s chamber opera Savior, a soprano soloist in the premiere of Amy Beth Kirsten’s chamber opera Infernal Angel, Lowri in Leigha Amick’s chamber opera Rhiannon’s Condemnation, and soprano soloist in the premiere of curtis composer, Delfin Demiray’s, chamber piece: wreck.repair.repeat. Shikta has also appeared as the Rooster, Jay, and Mrs. Pasek in The Cunning Little Vixen, Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and will perform the role of Arminda this summer in Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe. Shikta has also performed in various Opera Scenes concerts at Curtis such as Juliette from Gounod's Romeo et Juliette and Zerlina from Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In summer of 2024, Shikta was a part of the Chautauqua Conservatory where she performed the role of Oberto in Alcina and participated in a curated recital on Nature and Portraits of Women with Brian Zeger. Prior to her time at Curtis, Shikta spent four years at the Juilliard School’s pre-college program during which she was a winner in the National YoungArts Competition, a two time recipient of a George London Foundation scholarship, and a semi-finalist in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
