Biography

Sofia Picaso

Sofía Sanchez with artistic name of Sofía Picaso was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León. She began her musical studies at the age of 4 playing piano and violin. She has participated in different festivals such as: Orford Music Festival- Canada 2015, Sankt Goar International Music Festival- Germany 2016, Festival Arte Escénica- Saltillo México 2016, International Vocal Arts Institute – New York 2017, Canadian Vocal Arts 2017, International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia 2017, San Luis Potosí Opera Festival 2018 and 2019, European Music Institute, Vienna 2018. She participated in the Young Opera program where she played the role of “Despina” in the Opera “Così Fan Tutte” by Mozart in October 2017. She has also played the roles of “Pamina” in “The Magic Flute” by Mozart with a production of ESMDM in June 2018 and “Gretel” in the opera “Hansel and Gretel – Humperdinck” in a production by Ópera de Nuevo León in October of the same year. She played the role of “Zerlina'' at the Opera “Don Giovanni” by Mozart with Mexico Opera Studio in December 2020. She won the Ópera San Luis and Fredd Fox School of Music awards in the “2018 Linus Lerner Singing Competition” as well as the invitation to perform with the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra in an opera Gala which took place in September 2018. She won an encouragement award in the “Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions- Mexico District'' in the 2018 and 2020 editions.


She participated in master classes with mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca, tenor Francisco Araiza and soprano Kristine Opolais and Dolora Zajick. She worked with stage directors Joshua Major, Marcelo Buscaino, Leticia Parra, Paco de Luna and Rennier Piñero. She was part of the first generation of Mexico Ópera Studio 2019 and took part in its opera workshop 2020. At MOS she has been prepared with acting classes and vocal training by teachers Rennier Piñero and Alejandro Miyaki. In 2021 she participated in the concert "Two Worlds in Equity" with the UANL Chamber Orchestra conducted by Claudio Tarris where she sang “Three poems of Mallarmé” by Maurice Ravel. In July of 2021, she concluded her studies at the ESMDM, obtaining a Bachelor Degree in Singing Performance. In December of the same year she played the role of “Serpina'' in the opera “La Serva Padrona” with a production of MOS.

In May of 2022 she sang Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy as a soprano soloist with the Symphonic Orchestra of UANL. In August of the same year she performed the opera “The elixir of love” in the role “Adina” with Monterrey Summer Opera Academy. 

Currently she’s doing her Masters Degree in singing at Fundació Conservatori Liceu of Barcelona, finishing in June of the next year.
