Soomin Kim is a passionate soprano from the Republic of Korea, currently pursuing her degree in the P.D.S.P. program at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, where she studies under the guidance of Heidi Grant Murphy. She previously earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Yonsei University, and has captivated audiences with the power, expressiveness, and emotional depth of her performances in opera and classical music.
In Korea, she won prizes in several competitions, including the Korea Music Journal Competitio, Music Education News Competition, and Han-eum Competition. Her notable stage credits include the roles of Barbarina in <Le Nozze di Figaro> and Papagena in <Die Zauberflöte>, as well as appearances at the Korea-China Opera Gala Concert.
In the United States, Soomin Kim has further expanded her career, performing the role of Pamina in <Die Zauberflöte> with Heidi Grant Murphy’s Opera Workshop at the Jacobs School of Music in fall 2024. In 2025, she appeared as Morgana in <Alcina> of spring season opera in Jacobs School of Music, which highlighted her vocal agility and dramatic presence, and also performed as the soprano soloist in Notus Contemporary Vocal Ensemble’s Reflections & Meditations, demonstrating her commitment to both classical and contemporary repertoire. During the same season, she was also recognized as a prizewinner in the NSAL Competition, further affirming her artistry and dedication to her craft.
Soomin Kim is scheduled to perform Susanna of Le nozze di Figaro in this fall 2025 at Indiana University Jacobs school of Music Opera Theater and she continues to inspire audiences through her artistry, blending her deep passion for music with her unwavering pursuit of excellence.
