A contemporary music enthusiast, Sydney has participated in numerous World Premieres as well as workshops of new compositions at various stages of the creation process. She was most recently featured as Snow/Child on the 2021 World Premiere recording of "The Selfish Giant" (Clarice Assad/Lila Palmer), and sang the role of Monkey in the 2020 workshop of "The Opposable Thumb" (Liliya Ugay), both with American Lyric Theater. This season, she will create the roles of Dalinda in the World Premiere of "Being Ariodante" (Dawe) with Ensemble Échappé, and Juana in the Staged Premiere of "En la ardiente oscuridad" (Omar Najmi) with The Phoenicia Festival. During the summer of 2019, Sydney covered Jennifer Zetlan in the Title Role of Ricky Ian Gordon's "Ellen West," premiered at Opera Saratoga and co-commissioned by Beth Morrison Projects. Also later this season, Sydney will sing the role of Contessa in "Le Nozze di Figaro" with Opera NEO. COVID-19 postponements include Vienna in "Der glorreiche Augenblick" (Beethoven) with the Manchester Symphony Orchestra, Gretel in "Hansel und Gretel" with City Lyric Opera, and Soprano Soloist in "Lobgesang" with York Symphony. Sydney was named an Eastern Region Finalist after winning the Eastern District of the 2020 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and went on to win the Audience Favorite Award at the Region Finals. She has previously won two Encouragement Awards through the competition, and was a 2019 Finalist in the Jensen Vocal Competition. Sydney holds degrees from University of Hartford (BM) and University of Houston (MM).
