Biography

Taisiya Sokolova

Taisiya Sokolova was raised in a musical family and received her first music lessons from her mother. She started playing violin at the age of three and viola at the age of twelve in her native Russia, where she attended the Gnessin Special Music School for gifted children.  After graduating, she came to the US to attend the Colburn Academy for Young Artists. She then received her Bachelor of Music from Indiana University South Bend, and Master of Music from Indiana University Jacob School of Music with Atar Arad. She also earned a Professional Performance Certificate from DePaul University where she studied with Wei-Ting Kuo, and is currently pursuing Doctorate of Musical Arts at Boston University.
         Taisiya is a prize winner of numerous competitions, including the MTNA State Competition in 2014 and 2015, Imperial Symphony Orchestra Young Artists competition in 2014, and the International Competition “21st Century Art” in Kiev, Ukraine, in 2009. Taisiya has appeared as a soloist in Russia, Turkey, Israel, Italy, Germany, and USA.  She made her debut as a soloist with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra in Lakeland, Florida, in March of 2014. In August of 2015, Taisiya appeared with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Alicante in Perugia, Italy. She is also an avid chamber musician, and has appeared in festivals such as Heifetz, Red Rock Music Festival, and Music Fest Perugia. In addition, she has collaborated with a number of chamber music groups across the United States. Most recently, she appeared at the Women’s Club of Santa Fe, New Mexico, with musicians from the Santa Fe Opera. In addition, she has performed in different Concert Series, including Northbrook Public Library Concert Series with pianist, Eric Weimer, and cellist, Chris Ferrer. In 2022, Taisiya returned to Indiana University to perform a recital as a Guest Artist.

As an orchestral musician, Taisiya is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and has performed with orchestras such as Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, and many others. Taisiya is an active educator working with children from different backgrounds through Boston’s public and private schools. In addition to viola, Taisiya teaches violin, music theory, and music appreciation.
