Tarryn Ballard is a mezzo-soprano based in Houston, Texas, where she is an active presence in the city’s vibrant performing arts community. A dedicated Houstonian, Tarryn regularly collaborates with local theaters and opera companies, bringing versatility, charm, and depth to every performance.
Recent operatic highlights for Tarryn Ballard include her appearance as Fleta and understudy for the title role in Iolanthe with the Houston Gilbert & Sullivan Society (2025), as well as performances in the chorus of Houston Grand Opera’s productions of Parsifal (2024) and Tannhäuser (2025). In 2024, she portrayed the iconic role of Mama Rose in Gypsy with Operativo. During the 2023 season at Opera in the Ozarks, she sang L’Opinion Publique in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers and Mrs. Splinters in Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land. Additional credits include her appearance as a bridesmaid soloist and chorus member in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Harrower Summer Opera Intensive (2019). Equally accomplished in concert repertoire, she has appeared as the mezzo-soprano soloist in major works such as Duruflé’s Requiem, Op. 9, Vivaldi’s Gloria in D Major, and Mozart’s Requiem, performing with the Cypress Creek Christian Chorale.
Tarryn Ballard holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, where she studied under Melanie Sonnenberg. During her graduate studies, she performed notable roles such as Madame Armfeldt in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, Cornelia in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, and Prince Orlovsky in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, building a strong foundation in both classical and musical theatre repertoire. She also holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Georgia. During her studies, Tarryn has worked with esteemed coaches and conductors including Keith Chambers, Richard Bado, Eiki Isomura, and Steven Osgood, further enriching her artistry and technical versatility.
