Pianist, coach, and Head of Music at Kentucky Opera

Taylor Burkhardt is a multifaceted musician, working as a vocal coach, conductor, chamber musician, and répétiteur. She currently holds the Head of Music position at Kentucky Opera in Louisville, KY, where she also music directs the Youth Opera Project. In the 2022-2023 season, Taylor held the position of Teaching Fellow at the Juilliard School in the Vocal Arts Department, where she played and coached in a variety of capacities, including as a coach for all three mainstage productions and for the undergraduate scenes program. She was a Resident Artist at Utah Opera from 2019-2021 and has enjoyed multiple returns since as a guest coach. Other previous engagements include productions with American Lyric Theatre, the Atlanta Opera, Dayton Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Mill City Summer Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, and Virginia Opera. In addition, she has previously served as coaching faculty at Spotlight on Opera, Utah Vocal Arts Academy Summer Opera Festival, and at Druid City Opera Workshop. An avid proponent of new music, she was the repetiteur and coach for the world premiere of Laura Kaminsky's Finding Wright, prepared rehearsals and played orchestral piano for the world premiere of Matthew Aucoin's Crossing Suite, has performed Stephen Hough's Other Love Songs in the four-hands version with the composer himself, has performed under the supervision of composers Edie Hill, Jocelyn Hagen, David Biedenbender, Andrew List, and Nick Omiccioli, and has otherwise been a part of over twenty world premieres.
Taylor is a graduate of the doctoral program at the University of Minnesota, where she studied with Timothy Lovelace and Margo Garrett and was studio pianist for Adriana Zabala and John De Haan. She is also an alumna of the Music Academy of the West, where she primarily studied with Warren Jones.
